Discover Andy Boys Pizza

If you’re cruising down Portsmouth Boulevard and suddenly craving a hot slice, Andy Boys Pizza at 3916 Portsmouth Blvd, Chesapeake, VA 23321, United States, is one of those places that feels like a local secret hiding in plain sight. I’ve stopped in more than once after long afternoons covering community events nearby, and every visit has felt consistent-no gimmicks, just solid pizza, friendly service, and a menu that understands comfort food.

The first thing you notice is the smell. That unmistakable blend of baking dough, bubbling mozzarella, and seasoned tomato sauce hits before you even reach the counter. According to the National Restaurant Association, pizza remains one of America’s top comfort foods, and there’s science behind that craving. Carbohydrates in fresh dough can trigger serotonin production, while melted cheese adds that rich umami flavor people associate with satisfaction. Andy Boys seems to understand that balance instinctively.

Their menu sticks to the classics but does them well. The cheese pizza has a crisp yet chewy crust-clearly hand-tossed-and the sauce tastes bright and slightly sweet without overpowering the toppings. I once watched the staff stretch the dough in real time, pressing air to the edges to create that slight puff in the crust. It’s a traditional method used in many East Coast pizzerias, and you can tell they respect that process. The pepperoni pizza, in particular, stands out. The slices curl at the edges, forming little cups of flavor that crisp perfectly under high heat.

Beyond pizza, the menu includes subs, wings, and pasta dishes. The Philly cheesesteak sub has earned solid reviews locally, and after trying it myself, I get why. The steak is chopped fine, grilled quickly to retain moisture, and layered with melted provolone. It’s the kind of sandwich that requires both hands and plenty of napkins. The wings come tossed in classic buffalo sauce or barbecue, and they arrive hot and well-coated rather than drowning in sauce.

Customer reviews often mention portion size and value. In a time when many restaurants are quietly shrinking servings, Andy Boys keeps plates generous. I’ve shared a large pizza during a small team meeting, and we still had leftovers. That practicality matters, especially for families in Chesapeake looking for reliable takeout after a busy week.

From a food safety standpoint, the open kitchen setup adds a layer of trust. You can see the preparation process, from dough stretching to slicing. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration emphasizes transparency in food handling as a key factor in building consumer confidence, and this layout supports that idea. Clean counters, organized topping stations, and quick service all signal that operations are handled professionally.

Location-wise, being on Portsmouth Boulevard makes it easy to access whether you’re a local resident or passing through western Chesapeake. Parking is straightforward, and pickup orders move quickly. I’ve called ahead before, and the timing was accurate within minutes-something that sounds small but makes a difference when you’re coordinating dinner around kids’ activities or work schedules.

What also stands out is the atmosphere. It’s casual and unpretentious. You won’t find trendy décor or experimental toppings like truffle oil here. Instead, you’ll get what many people actually want: hot pizza, dependable flavors, and a place that feels rooted in the neighborhood. That kind of consistency builds authority in its own quiet way. Restaurants that last in competitive markets like Chesapeake usually do so because they’ve earned repeat customers.

There’s always room for growth-like expanding specialty pizza options or adding seasonal items-but the core of what they do works. When you combine fresh ingredients, traditional preparation methods, and steady service, you get a diner-style pizza spot that locals return to again and again. In a city full of chain restaurants and flashy newcomers, Andy Boys Pizza keeps things simple, and honestly, that’s its biggest strength.

  • Our first time here and we will definitely be back. The garlic knots were delicious. But the pizza. . .If you think this pizza looks good, it tastes even better than that. The crust was crisp, buttery, and delicious. The toppings were fresh and plentiful. Every slice more loaded with toppings than a person trying to move a full apartment in a single trip with an S-10. Our waitress, Joanna, was pleasant and helped us choose the best pizza we've had in Virginia. We will absolutely be back.

  • This was my first time trying Andy Boy's Pizza. Yowza! It was some of the best pizza I've ever had. I first heard about them through FM 99. Well, let me back up a bit ... My husband and I had an orange and white tabby named Andy, whom we often called Andy Boy. He passed away last October and we miss him very much. His birthday was coming up at the end of August (it was the first one after his passing), so I was thinking about him. A few days before his birthday I was listening to FM 99 and heard the promo for the Andy Boy's Pizza gift certificates. The name caught my attention and I told my husband we needed to try it just for the name alone. So I bought a certificate. We live in Newport News; today was the first chance we had to get over to their area. My husband picked up the order and brought it home. We were both blown away by the quality of the food. The pizza is outstanding, and the crust is phenomenal. My husband was born and raised in this area, but I'm from Philadelphia. I'm a pizza snob. I believe a top notch pizza doesn't need toppings to be good. A good cheese pizza can stand on its own, and I always judge a "new to me" pizza shop with how good their regular cheese pizza is. We ordered a large cheese and a 2nd large with mushrooms, onions, and pineapple (along with a few sides). Wow. Just wow! I can't stress enough how good they both were! We liked the one with toppings just as much as the plain cheese. We'll definitely be ordering from them again. I wish I'd taken pictures of the food before we dug in, but all the leftovers are already wrapped up and in our fridge. You'll have to accept some pictures of our angel Andy Boy instead. He would've been begging for some of the cheese off the pizza!

  • Crust is amazing. Sauce is perfectly savory. Toppings are good, this is my new favorite pizza spot in the Norfolk Chesapeake area. Definitely will be ordering again. I do wish they had an employee delivery driver, uber eats is their delivery which I am not super happy about. You got a great pizza, get your own delivery service!

  • Their food is always amazing (pizza, hot turkey subs and French fries)! They have always had wonderful service and the atmosphere is in the works, but wouldn’t take away from all of the positives as they’re working to remodel the interior. My only suggestion would be to offer a few Gluten Free options for those of us who have celiac disease or are gluten intolerant. My family has been going here since the early 90’s and I have nothing but positive feedback. Thanks for your great service to our community. ~Erin

  • OMG! This place is AWESOME! 1st of all Joanna is the best! 5 stars service. We came here because we moved to this area and kept seeing this place. Went in and they are renovating it to look better. The interior is nice, super roomy, clean, lots of seating and PLENTY of parking. Great choices on the menu, we ended up getting mozzarella sticks, pastrami sandwich, and the 14" Mediterranean pizza with sausage added. When I saw everything was good, I mean EVERYTHING WAS GOOD! Even the water was good . Cheese sticks were the crispiest we've ever had, pastrami sandwich was sooo good, and the pizza was tasty, crispy bottom and I felt full after just one slice! Be for warned, when you come bring your stretchy pants, you're gonna need it when you waddle out.

  • Best Pizza in Hampton Roads! I have eaten many over the years at other places. This tops them: Andy Boys Pizza always has a ton of topping and best of all it doesn’t give me heartburn later. You get your monies worth. Their meat pizza and specialty pizza are the best. Go get ya some. And no I don’t know them or were paid to say this. This is my honest opinion
